Vision Plans (all types)
Health Insurance usually covers medical
conditions of the eye, such as injury, illness, infection, cataracts, glaucoma,
etc. However, for routine Vision expenses, such as the Refractive Eye
Exam, and Eyewear, Contact Lenses, Glasses (Frames & Lenses), there is often
a separate Vision benefit. This may be a "Discount" benefit, or
it may be more comprehensive coverage. You can even purchase a separate
Vision policy. There are 2 kinds of Vision plans:
- Traditional Plans that reimburse you for
actual claims for Routine Refractive Eye Exams, and/or Eyewear such as
Contact Lenses and Glasses (Frames & Lenses). These plans can
utilize a Network of Preferred Providers, or may pay benefits if you use any
Optometrist or Ophthalmologist.
- Discount plans that require you to use a
Provider that is in their Network, then allow you to have a discount on the
cost of the Routine Refractive Eye Exam and/or Eyewear.
